# Import, export and code

> Copy or download a workflow as JSON, start a flow from one, or manage workflows from your own server.

## Export

In the workflow editor, on a flow's overview, or on a row of the **Flows** table, choose** Export**. You can copy the JSON or download it as `<flow name>.json`. The file also keeps the canvas layout (step positions and line bends) under `ui`; the engine ignores it.

## Import

1. In the workflow editor choose **Import** to replace the canvas, or on **Flows** choose **Import** (or the **Import JSON** tile in **New flow**) to start a new flow from it.
2. Paste the JSON, or upload a `.json` file (drop it on the box or click to choose).
3. Choose **Import**. In the editor nothing is saved until you press **Save**, and Undo brings back what was there.

Import accepts a bare workflow, or a whole flow document with the workflow inside it.

## From code

Read a flow's workflow, change it, and save it back with the server SDK:

```js
const flow = await voxio.flows.get(flowKey);
const workflow = flow.agent.workflow;
workflow.nodes.greeting.parameters.out_dict.speak = "Hello from Sunrise Dental!";
await voxio.flows.update(flowKey, { workflow });
```

> **Tip**
>
> The next session uses the new workflow. Calls already running keep the old one.
